FAQs

  • This exclusive club is reserved for people who have been laid off and are currently unemployed. Sorry, recruiters/gainfully employed folks/anyone not actively seeking a job—this party’s not for you. We’re focused on creating a supportive space for those navigating the wild world of FUNemployment.

  • Our lawyers told us we can’t guarantee this program will help you find a job. BUT! Your mindset is everything in a job search. We saw it thousands of times on the other side of the hiring table- the best candidates were dynamic, memorable, and connected to their work. Our goal is to empower you to feel more connected to yourself, rebuild your confidence, and prioritize  FUN. When you do, you’ll have a more grounded, positive mindset that will help you present the best version of yourself to everyone you meet in the process.

  • Each hour-long session will focus on a theme that will provide a FUN, fresh way of thinking about common FUNemployment challenges and help you get closer to finding (and being mentally prepared for) your next role.

    Basic Components:

    1. Experiences that give you a chance to use job search skills in a more engaging context.

      • Is it practice? Kind of! Job searching is HARD. We believe we can be better at doing hard things if we have fun while doing it.

      • Bonus!  - you can experiment and have more examples to discuss in your interviews about things you are doing now to keep engaged with your professional skills.

    2. Connecting with people who are going through the same challenges by sharing perspective and solving problems together.

      • We miss coworkers, don’t you? The social value that work brings to our lives is real - and probably the most difficult to replicate. While we won’t be able to fully replicate the social fun of coworkers, we are confident we can get close to that feeling, like a really good vegan cheese – not quite the same but can do the trick.

    Content Examples:

    • Motivation - How to build your fire and keep it burning?

    • Burnout -  When should you let your fire simmer down?

    • Interviewing - How do you answer common questions in a FUN and memorable way?

    • Rejection - Who is “another candidate who more closely met our needs” exactly?

    • Imposter Syndrome - How do you talk about your strengths when you don’t feel strong?

    • Roller Coaster Ride - Is it normal to be laughing one minute and crying the next?

    • Networking - How do you leverage the people around you without feeling gross about it?

  • Hey, who isn’t? Totally normal. The FUNemployment program is all about being a safe, welcoming space. Plus, we will be using the word FUNcomfortable to describe that squinchy feeling. Whether you’re the social butterfly of the group or prefer to lurk in the shadows, there’s a spot for you. You can participate as much—or as little—as you want.  We do require your camera to be on, and if you’d rather listen than talk, let the group know in chat. That way we won’t call on you.

  • No forced public speaking here! (Betsy used to be a public speaking professor so knows that pain!) You can participate at your own pace. If listening is more your style, you’re welcome to sit back and take it all in - just make sure you let us know that’s your choice. No pressure

  • Not much! Just a stable internet connection, a device to join, and maybe a notebook for all the great ideas we’ll be exploring. No fancy supplies required.

  • If you get a job, you’d better speak up and let us build a Hunger Games-style tribute to celebrate! After that, stay in touch, share your success story, and update us if you hear of open roles or want to refer people to the group.

*If you’re feeling generous and want to pay it forward, you’re able to donate to our scholarship FUNd for other FUNemployed folks.

  • Oh, we love feedback. Share your thoughts any time through our anonymous form or chiming in during the open chat at the end of any session. We’re all about making this the best experience it can be.

  • We’re here to help! Whether you need a resume review, prep for a job interview, help negotiating an offer letter, or simply some extra tips, we’re ready for you. Also, once you get a job if you need training or skills coaching, we can do that, too. Just reach out to us and we’ll talk through options. We both have experience in career counseling and would be thrilled to discuss what private 1:1 guidance could look like.

  • Cohorts

    • This is a commitment you’re making to yourself and to the group. If something comes up and you can’t make one of your sessions, that’s okay! Stuff happens. We’ll see you at the next one. Having said that, there will be no refunds on individual Cohort sessions.

    • If you’d like to cancel your subscription to the monthly cohorts, you can do that with up to 7 days notice before the next billing cycle (so we have an opportunity to provide your spot to someone else).

    Workshops & Special Sessions

    • You’re able to cancel with at least 24 hours of notice. If it’s within 24 hours, refunds will not be approved.

    1:1 Sessions

    • Determined on a case by case basis.

  • Yes! If there is a space available, you can adjust the cohort you’re subscribed to. Chat with us if you have any questions.

*If you’re adjusting to a different cohort type (semi-monthly vs monthly), we’ll make the adjustment beginning the next full month.

Let the FUN begin!
