The FUNemployment Origin Story
Betsy “Boots” McCann, PhD
Creator, Coach, and FUNcilitator
FUNemployment was a vision Betsy had while digging up her garden the day after she was laid off in April 2024. For real- she was going deep, y’all. It hurt to lose that moment in her career- especially when nothing about her job loss was her fault. While many would consider this as a villain origin story, she decided to use the powers of FUNemployment for good instead of she-vil.
Having hired thousands of people in her career, Betsy had fist hand experience seeing what people went through after layoff - the isolation, the shame, the self-doubt. What if there was a space where people who’d been laid off could celebrate and struggle together? As a people executive, Betsy, and wanted to demystify job searching and how to be a great candidate, while also empowering people to embrace their worth over their work (worth > work, y’all!).
In her career Betsy has counseled long-term unemployed folks in how to get their professional sauce back (Reader, they all got jobs). Plus, she and her friends had been saying FUNemployment for years to soothe the pain of job loss. So she made her vision a reality - she founded Bet Your Boots Consulting, LLC, and built FUNemployment as a program she could offer side by side with her career coaching and consulting business to bring joy in the journey to you..
